Algumas vezes, precisamos aprofundar a investigação clínica e para isso, recorremos à análise histológica da lesão (anatomopatológico). Para isso, é necessário remover um fragmento de pele e enviá-lo para avaliação do patologista.
A remoção desse pequeno fragmento de pele é chamado de biópsia e é realizado pelo dermatologista durante a consulta para diagnóstico de pintas (lesões pigmentares) suspeitas ou investigação de doenças dermatológicas (pele, unha ou couro cabeludo/cabelo). O procedimento é feito sob anestesia local e, então, um pequeno fragmento de pele (em torno de 3mm) é retirado e a pele do local é suturada com um ou dois pontos.
